The main by-products resulting from benzene alkylation with propylene to cumene are the diisopropylbenzene (DIPB) isomers. To increase the overall efficiency of the cumene process, this isomer mixture is usually transalkylated with benzene to cumene. The paper presents a study of DIPB transalkylation on a Ca modified Y type zeolite. To describe the process kinetics three models were formulated and tested: Langmuir-Hinshehwood, Eley Rideal and classical power law model. In spite of its empirical nature, the last one appears as the most rational to describe the process kinetics, due of its acceptable accuracy, mathematical simplicity and smaller number of parameters.
