Quinidine was incorporated in acrylic copolymers mierospheres during or after the copolymerization process The microparticles are perfectly spherical with a narrow size distribution. They are obtained by suspension radical copolymerization of methacrylic acid, methyl methacrylate and etyleneglycol dimethacrylate as crosslinking agent, in the presence of an inert solvent (n-butanol). The mierospheres were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, yield, exchange capacity, solvent regain and swelling degree. The amount of entrapped drug and release profiles were deeply influenced by the methacrylic acid/ methyl methacrylate ratio (HLB balance), crossliking degree, and the nature and percentage of the inert solvent.
