The use of a large squirrel cage induction motor fed from a variable frequency drive is becoming much more common in industry. For an industrial application to achieve the highest performance and the system to be extremely reliable, it is important that all of the aspects are given the appropriate consideration. The type of load, torque, and the inertia requirements must be well defined, and the correct method of cooling chosen. A properly selected variable frequency drive is also an important requirement. This is all necessary to be accomplished in addition to all of the other design issues that were discussed and the result will then be a long lasting, optimized system.
