Cooperative Learning Implementation in a Signals and Systems Course

Lecturers who teach Signals and Systems at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia are really concerned on how to ensure that the students are capable of establishing the important concepts of the course thus allowing them to apply the concepts to any given application. Most of the lecturers have expressed their frustrations on the challenge they faced in handling this issue which they believe is due to the students' habit of memorizing everything. The approach taken to overcome this issue is to introduce cooperative learning in one of the course sections. This paper describes how cooperative learning (CL) is implemented in the course. Analysis on the impact of the CL implementation in improving the students' performance related to the course concepts is made based on their feedback and final results.
