EVALUATION OF MID-LATE SUGARCANE VARIETIES OF NORTH-WEST ZONE UNDER HARYANA CONDITIONS-A STUDY BASED ON CANE YIELD, QUALITY AND RED ROT REACTION

Based on pooled data of two plant and one ratoon , performance of nine mid-late maturing sugarcane clones namely CoS99259, Co98016, Co98017, CoH110, CoH119, CoJ20193, CoS767, CoS8436, and Co1148 including three checks were assessed at CCS HAU Regional Research Station, Karnal with respect to cane yield and quality parameters. The clones CoH110 and CoH119 yielded significantly higher than the checks, in both plant and ratoon crop for cane yield and sugar yield. Clones CoH110 and CoH119 along with CoS99259 and CoJ20193 hold promise for quality (sucrose % juice) at maturity. In the present study clone CoH110 and CoH119 were found to hold promise for both cane yield and quality at maturity under Haryana conditions in mid-late maturity groups. All the tested clones were found moderately resistant to red rot reaction to the prevalent pathotypes in Haryana under artificial inoculation.
