A field experiment was conducted during 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06 for three plant crops and two ratoons at CSRS, Padegaon to develop an eco-friendly nutrient management strategy for seasonal sugarcane grown on Vertisol with ten treatments. Application of 100 per cent recommended dose of NPK with 25 per cent additional N through FYM + biofertilizers and the treatment of application of 75 per cent RD of NPK with 25 per cent N through FYM were found superior over the other sources and levels in terms of cane (136.0 and 133.0 t/ha1) and CCS yield (18.70 and 10.10 t/ha~(-1)) (for plant cane and ratoon crops, respectively) with maintaining soil health and economics. Results clearly indicates the saving of 25 per cent inorganic fertilizers by use of integration of different nutrient sources with maintaining soil fertility and economics of the sugarcane plant and one ratoon.
