REUSE OF TREATED WASTE WATER AS A PROCESS WATER IN SUGAR INDUSTRY - CASE STUDY

Though the factory is situated on the bank of Hiranyakeshi river, we were facing acute shortage of water which was required for the operation in sugar season. And to cope up the water requirement, we had to fetch the water from Hidkal Dam spending over lakhs of rupees every year. Increasing cost of water and its nonavailability during the crushing season, compelled the factory to take immediate steps for recycling of maximum quantity of water available in cane itself and also to reuse the treated waste water coming from the washing of equipments during the crushing season and treating it in a well designed Effluent Treatment Plant very efficiently. The treated effluent recycled as a process water such as sulphur burner cooling water, spray pond and wet scrubber make-up water which have been highlighted below.
