In modern sugar industry it is not uncommon to find levelers, cutters.fibrizers, ID fans, FD fans, centrifuges etc. linked together to perform process of sugar manufacturing. Rotors of these machines gradually move in to an unbalanced condition due to uneven wear, tear and erosion during service. Unbalanced rotors are mechanically inefficient because they produce unwanted dynamic forces responsible for excessive vibrations and stresses in the machine parts. Moreover, vibrations created by unbalance can be transmitted through fioors, walls, girders and pipe lines of factory to affect machine operations at other locations. It is, therefore, essential to balance the assembly of these machines dynamically. In-situ balancing (field balancing) is the appropriate method to balance entire assembly of rotating parts at its actual working speed. Present paper deals with the review of in-situ balancing method adopted for rotating machines in sugar industries. It also describes important guide lines for balancing procedure and in selecting amount of trial weights and its locations during balancing process. Authors have come across many unbalance problems of fibrizers, ID fans, FD fans, alternator-generators where in-situ balancing was adopted to balance the machines. One such case study is also presented in this paper.
