The milling section is the most important section in any sugar industry. It consumes "Large" quantity of lubricant for transmission and journal bearing, open gears. The present system of oil lubrication is a one-through process and slippage of lubricant (oil) mixing with washed water is very serious problem, which cannot be controlled easily under the present P.C.B. norms. The bituminous base lubricant is very difficult to treat and makes the whole surrounding black.The main intention of this paper is to "Select the proper Lubrication system" and a lubricant to minimize the pollution and reduce the cost. We have tried using grease in one of the mills during 2004-05 season and continued this crop to full tandem. The experience and observations are described & discussed.
