SWEET SORGHUM - A POTENTIAL CROP FOR BIOMASS, GRAIN, FODDER, PAPER AND ALCOHOL

摘要

A replicated field experiment was conducted at Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore to evaluate six varieties of sweet sorghum for its potential for biomass production, stalk yield, grain yield, alcohol yield and certain technological parameters. The study revealed that the crop is suitable for all the abovc purposes. In view of its suitability for the above purposes and its adaptability to varying soil and growing conditions, sweet sorghum is suggested as an alternative/ supplementary crop to sugarcane.
