We can anticipate the future of computer control by extrapolating megatrends that have been in progress since earliest man. They are the transfer of man's capabilities to a machine starting with the transfer of physical labor which we have moved to the point in current computerization where rote and logical thinking are extensively transferred to the machine. Now we are at the threshold of transferring heuristic thinking to the machine. This will occur through expert systems being developed in artificial intelligence. The stage beyond this is coupling the computer into the thinking process of man. This is distinct from delegation wherein man simply gives the machine input. Heretofore, we have been programming the machine to do the thinking that goes on in the left side of our brain. The future will see the reverse wherein the machine will program the right side of our brain, that part which does the creative and intuitional thinking.
