X-ray scattering is used to study the patterns of absorbed F(CF_2)_(10)(CH_2)_2OH monolayers at the hexane-water interface. The reflectivities measured at different temperatures indicate a sublimation phase transition. Above the transition temperature the monolayer desorbs into hexane, leaving behind an interface with very low density of surfactant. Immediately below the transition temperature the monolayer is in a solid-gas coexistence state, forming patterned structure. The formation of the patterns is confirmed by the enhanced diffuse scattering near the specular reflection peaks. The diffuse scattering peaks reveal that the patterns are spatially ordered though the hexane acts to disorder the monolayers.
