Simplicity is one of the principal advantages of the continuous centrifugal machine. Continuous centrifugals becomes widely used in the processing of low-grade recovery massecuite in 1950's onward. A fundamental difference between the batch machine and continuous centrifugal machine is, the way sugar behaves on the screens. Once a batch machine has been fed, the sugar remains stationary relative to the screen until discharged at low speed, whereas in a continuous centrifugal machine there is always a relative motion between the sugar and the screen. Due to this relative motion the screen life is very less, requires periodical shutdowns for replacement. Cost of Nickel and chromium is increasing day-by-day leads to high replacement cost.M/S JOHNSON (India) had provided us a wedge bar type, S.S. welded screen, known as VEE- WIRE CONTINUOUS SLOT SCREEN before the start of season 2003-004 for the trial having a uniform aperture of 0.05 mm with around 9~+% opening area for trial in one of our CFW centrifugal machine. After operating the screen for two complete seasons we found that this type of screen is most cost effective, versatile and longer life giving higher output in the tune of 30%-37%. So far after operating two seasons there is no change in the screen profile. This paper deals with observations and various aspects of the screen.
