THE ENVISAT ATMOSPHERIC CHEMISTRY INSTRUMENTVALIDATION PROGRAMME

Three atmospheric-chemistry sensors form part of thernENVISAT payload that has been placed into orbit inrnMarch 2002. This paper will discuss the validationrnaspects of these instruments.rnAlthough the main validation phase for the atmosphericrninstruments of ENVISAT will be completed soon,rnongoing validation products will continue throughout thernlifetime of the ENVISAT mission. The long-termrnvalidation phase will:rn1. Provide assurance of data quality and accuracy forrnapplications such as climate change researchrn2. Investigate the fully representative range ofrngeophysical conditionsrn3. Investigate the fully representative range of seasonalrncyclesrn4. Perform long term monitoring for instrumentalrndrifts and other artefactsrn5. Validate new products.
