In this paper we report the results of three validation studies.rnFirst, a comparison of the recently processed SCIAMACHYrn”validation reference set” ozone columns (softwarernversion 5.01) with assimilated ozone fields basedrnon the new GOME ozone column retrieval of KNMI (TOGOMI).rnSecond, a direct comparison between the SCIAMACHYrn”validation reference set” and the scientific retrievalrnof the KNMI (TOSOMI algorithm). Third, a monitoringrnof the early 2004 SCIAMACHY total ozone meteornproduct with the ozone analyses of the ECMWF model.rnThe SCIAMACHY operational ozone column product hasrnimproved compared to ACVE-1, but an upgrade of thernprocessor is still urgently needed to include the latest algorithmrndevelopments inplemented for the GOME ozonerncolumn retrieval. The TOSOMI scientifically retrieved O_3rncolumn of KNMI is a stable product with a small biasrn< 1% compared to GOME-TOGOMI and an overall biasrnof −1.5% compared to Brewer and Dobson. The SCIAMACHYrnoperational ozone data showed large problems inrnMarch and April 2003.
