In early 2004, the near real-time data processor ofrnENVISAT SCIAMACHY (SCI_NL) was upgraded tornversion 5.01. Based on the correlative measurementsrnacquired and collected during the commissioning phasernof the satellite in 2002, a preliminary validation wasrnorganised to verify the improvement and assess therngeophysical consistency of the new SCIAMACHYrnozone vertical column data product. The presentrnoverview summarises the results obtained by a list ofrnvalidation teams and involving ground-based datarnacquired from pole to pole by complementary groundbasedrnsensors. The studies conclude to an improvementrncompared to previous versions 3.5x. They also confirmrnthe presence of expected errors (e.g. dependence onrnsolar elevation and on ozone column) inherited from thernGOME Data Processor GDP 2.4, on which thernSCIAMACHY processor SCI_NL is based.
