A survey on facial modeling and animation algorithms from the history development and the state-of-art research is provided. The basic problems and typical techniques related to facial modeling and animation such as 3D capture techniques, parametric facial modeling and animation, motion capture, expression cloning along with those typical algorithms are analyzed and compared to characterize their technical principles, advantages and limitations. Finally, the main course of future research in this domain is pointed out.
