Back in the 1960s, Ted Strader produced many published designs that employed small glow engines and, in many cases, early and very basic RC systems. One in particular, the Nomad, became a classic. It was essentially a powered glider, with a V2A glow engine mounted forward of the wing on a raised pylon. The location of the engine made it nearly impossible to break a prop. The flying characteristics of the Nomad made it popular with both beginners and sport flyers.
