When I was 13 years old, I joined a local RC club called "The Long Island Gas Monkeys." I was primarily into free-flight models, and the older members took us youngsters to various local contests. At a 1952 event, I saw Don Broggini fly his Cargowing to first place. This was the beginning of the PAA Clipper Cargo contests in which the contestants were limited to .049 glow engines and 20-second engine runs. Whoever lifted the most weight for the longest flight was the winner. On that day, Don lifted a record-setting 16 ounces. More remarkable was that he used a new form of flying wing—something that had never been done before. Well, 50 years later, Don Broggini is retired and still lives on Long Island, and I thought that Don's innovative design might be perfect for a modern electric-powered RC model. I call it the "Wonder Wing."
