摘要

The influence of extreme weather conditions on concrete, either when it is fresh or matured, have been reported to cause serious problems to the body of the concrete structure. Extremely high temperatures, for instance, increase the evaporation rate of water that is necessary for hydration process, which leads to crack propagation and strength reduction. Likewise, placing concrete under cold weather conditions will initiate cracks in conjunction with spalling and strength reduction due to the early frost of concrete. Therefore, protecting concrete structures that are exposed to cold or hot environments is a necessity to reduce their deterioration rate and extend their service life.
