Launched in 1928 by Concrete Publications Ltd, as Cement & Cement Manufacture, this long-running journal has evolved through a further four titles as its ownership has changed: Cement & Lime Manufacture (from 1937), Cement Technology (from 1970), World Cement Technology (from 1977) and from 1982 under its current publisher, Palladian Publications, WorldCement.Under its original title the magazine was conceived with great optimism, gearing up in its second year for simultaneous publication in four languages. The January 1930 issue carried a message from the chairman of the Cement Makers' Federation: "This journal, by increasing the common fund of knowledge, will secure the advance of concrete as a civilising agent and hasten the advent of the Concrete Age." Sadly, this otherwise far-sighted venture was undertaken just as the effects of the Great Depression were making themselves felt and forced a change of pohcy in 1931 after two years' endeavour.
