This Olympic legacy project performs two primary functions. First, it has provided much-improved access to the Overground network with the provision of new lifts, stairs, ticketing and customer support facilities. Second, it forms a key new urban connection beneath the raised railway embankment for the local community, improving accessibility and permeability in the area and reconnecting neighbourhoods on either side of the rail corridor, as a key linking piece in the wider regeneration of Hackney Wick.In 2014, Volker Fitzpatrick Ltd (VFL) was awarded the contract to design and build the new Hackney Wick Station. Mott MacDonald Ltd (MML) was appointed as design consultant, with Landolt and Brown (L+B) as architect. The delivery was achieved through Network Rail GRIP Stages and completed, following change control, to within 6% of the original budget.
