22 Bishopsgate - at 62 storeys and 278m tall - is the UK's second tallest building after The Shard. It ranks as the tallest commercial building located in the City of London.Designed by PLP Architecture, 22 Bishopsgate stands proudly above its neighbouring buildings. It replaces the partially constructed core for the former Pinnacle Tower, which came to a halt in 2012, following the financial crisis. The redesigned building complements the aspiration of planners to make the City of London compete with the Canary Wharfdevelopment to the east. The building has a gross floor area, including basements, of over 2 million ft~2 (185,800m~2), adding much needed office space in the City.Tall buildings of this magnitude require high-strength concrete to support the heavy load from the superstructure and actions from high wind forces. The concrete core was constructed using a jumpform system.
