The former Bethnal Green Mission Church at 305 Cambridge Heath Road was an inaccessible 1950s building, which had severe maintenance issues. The church was demolished and has been replaced with a new mixed-use development with a church at its heart, designed by architect Gatti Routh Rhodes. The project is a joint venture between Thornsett Group and Bethnal Green Mission Church and was funded by the creation of 14 residences, known as the Macpherson Apartments (after the church's founder), and provides co-working facilities for charities, a community hall, cafe, bookshop, community kitchen, foodbank store and vicarage. The building is located within the Bethnal Green Gardens Conservation Area and is surrounded by the Grade II*-listed V&A Museum of Childhood and Grade I-listed St John's Church, which was designed by Sir John Soane.
