The Brunei Building, part of the redevelopment of the Paddington basin, was commissioned by Derwent London with the aspiration of achieving high-quality, innovative and industry-leading design and engineering.Laing O'Rourke was engaged as main contractor for the project from the start of demolition in January 2016 through to practical completion in April 2019. The first exposed, architectural concrete commenced in January 2017, with the start of the basement core and soffits. The cores were constructed using a hydraulically lifted PERI jumpform system. This allowed the cores to be constructed ahead of the steel diagrid and lattice plank floor structures. The north and south cores were complete as the diagrid and floors commenced. The central core and floor plates overlapped for a time, so close co-ordination between the trades was required to ensure that the resources and space were available on-site when needed.
