Photo presentation marks Blue Bridge history

More than 56 years after its opening, the Blue Bridge in St James's Park, London recently played host to a presentation recounting its history and construction. Kathy Calverley, managing director of The Concrete Society, handed over a framed photograph to Graham Hartley, assistant park manager at St James's. The picture shows 300 Coldstream Guards load testing the new footbridge in September 1957. Also present was Philip Owens, an author on the bridge's history and civil engineering assistant for the 1950s project. Philip's written account of the bridge was featured in Concrete in two parts (June and July/ August) last year.
