Newbury Park Underground Station Revisited

Newbury Park underground station in London was extensively repaired 15 years ago. This article looks at the work carried out, the keys to a successful project and how the repair work has stood the test of time.rnThe entrance approach to Newbury Park underground station is a concrete barrelled roof structure supported by 16 concrete columns and was originally constructed to provide protection for people getting on and off buses and coaches as they were on their way to attend the Festival of Britain in 1951.rnA total of ten similar structures were constructed at various outlying stations around London but at the time of repair this particular structure was the last of its type. In fact in 1951, the structure won a design award and, just before it was repaired in 1994-95, it was recognised as a historic building and listed by English Heritage.
