Like many coastal villages, Anstruther is now home to a fleet of pleasure craft. It has two piers enclosing the harbour and, in the centre, an older pier known as the 'Folly Pier'. The age of this pier is uncertain but is estimated as being at least 200 years old. It is of wooden latticework construction and has had a concrete slab and a concrete end wall added at some time in the past.rnThe village of Anstruther lies on the north shore of the River Forth in what is referred to as 'The East Neuk of Fife'. For many centuries it was the chief port in the county of Fife. Trade with the Low Countries was already underway in the late 14th Century and later it was home to a whaling fleet, which was a rich source of income for many years. In the 19th and 20th Centuries, Anstruther was a main port for the herring fishing industry and today is home to the Scottish Fisheries Museum.
