Part 1 dealt with the Construction Products Directive (CPD)) and its associated conformity mark, namely CE (Conformite Europeenne).rnThe CPD envisaged three ways of obtaining CE Marking where it was regarded as mandatory, namely:rn1. conform to the Product Harmonised Standardrn2. a European Technical Approval (ETA) for the product in questionrn3. conform to an agreed National Specification.rnOption 3 only applies if I and 2 cannot be used. It is an exception because by the time agreement would be obtained on the retention of a National Specification it is likely to have resulted in a Harmonised Standard or an ETA.
