Cisco Delivers a Scalable Network

To meet the 1999 Gigabit Ethernet Challenge, Cisco Systems has designed a high-performance, resilient, and scalable network to keep bandwidth, response times, and growth ahead of the cus tomer's requirements. The network utilizes a multilayer design based on building blocks for the wiring closet, server farm, and backbone environment. The access layer comprises the wiring closets and server farm, and provides 10/100/1000 switched connectivity for the end stations and servers. The backbone layer provides the routing intelligence and gigabit bandwidth distribution. This modular approach is inherently scalable and can grow without requiring changes on the design model.
