I PO insanity. The Internet bubble. Everyone out there wants a piece of the next big thing. Here's a little tip, but let's keep it between ourselves: Layer 8 switching. (Layer 8, for those of you who haven't reached the exalted status of technology insider, is the forthcoming "Policy Layer" that ISO will inevitably add to the traditional ISO stack.) Consider the power that Layer 8 unleashes. Net managers merely have to publish their policies in the requisite HTML format and voila! Perfectly tweaked and tuned networks every time. Need to change policy? No problem. Every switch automatically reconfigures itself as soon as the HTML hits. Some enhanced implementations may even anticipate network architects' needs and make changes without waiting for policies to be prepared.
