Scalability is what counts on earner nets, and results from our test show that some RASs come up short. The Internet revolution, has created a monster—a many-headed mob of dial-up users that threatens to overrun carrier networks. Vendors say carriers can fight back with beasts of their own: So-called monster RASs, which grow from dozens to hundreds of thousands of ports and show no drop in performance even as the number of callers climbs.
