IP may rule, but let's not forget an older adage, one held near and dear by CFOs and venture capitalists alike: Money is power. So if the protocol that conquered the world is going to hold onto its kingdom, it's going to have to show a profit. E-commerce on a grand scale would do just fine, with lots of cybercash flowing into those corporate coffers. And airtight VPNs would be a nice touch, giving network architects a way to cut WAN costs by sending sensitive data over the Internet.
