In the last two years, three significant books dealing with Germany in the First and Second World Wars have been published. The first is a biography of the chemist, Fritz Haber, by Daniel Charles, Between Genius and Genocide - The tragedy of Fritz Haber, Father of Chemical Warfare (Pimlico, London, 2006). It was Haber's discovery of how to turn atmospheric nitrogen into nitrates that played a major role in prolonging the First World War.
