If one takes the road to the village of Bedford in the Eastern Cape and then turns off on to the narrow dirt road to Tarkastad, one will travel along a remote but spectacularvalley known today as the'Baviaan's River Conservancy'. This area was once home to the Prinsloos who participated in the Slagtersnek Rebellion and, later, to the Scottish 1820 settler party led by Thomas Pringle.
