Competition policy

Polish competition regulations are aligned with EU standards governing mergers, anti-monopoly agreements and abuse by companies with dominant market shares. Competition law is governed by the following: the Act on Competition and Consumer Protection (2007), the Act on Combating Unfair Market Practices (2007) and the Act on Combating Unfair Competition (1993). The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) is the competition regulator. Companies must notify the agency of their merger plans if, during the previous year, their combined global sales exceeded €1bn or if their joint revenues in Poland exceeded €50m. Since Poland's accession to the EU in 2004, mergers and acquisitions that have a so-called EU dimension fall under the purview of the European Commission.
