摘要

The field of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has advanced rapidly in recent years, with an explosion of scientific information coupled with newly approved therapies for both Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. As new therapies have become available, prior treatment paradigms have been challenged and the positioning and optimal use of these therapies is of great importance in order to maximize preferred outcomes for our patients. As part of the planning and scoping process for this CME-cer-tified supplement, seven IBD clinician scientists met in July 2015. The purpose of this meeting was to review the prepared outlines for the supplement, but also to review the state-of-the-art management of IBD. The IBD clinicians were identified as being able to provide a broad overview of the optimal use of newer therapies, to discuss gaps in knowledge, and to identify where consensus exists regarding clinical management when evidence was lacking. The meeting included at least one author from each of the proposed papers to provide an overview of clinical management and trans-lational science. The ensuing discussions led to the articles within this supplement being finalized and identified research priorities for the near term.
