1. In August 2022 the government announced the takeover of the ailing Polish Mining Group (Polska Grupa Gornicza), the largest coal-mining conglomerate in Europe. An ancillary goal of the purchase is to facilitate the government's control over the coal industry and to ensure compliance with EU environmental directives and national carbon emissions targets.2. In January 2023 the government set the gross minimum monthly wage at Z13,490, up from Z13,010 in 2022 and Z12,800 in 2021. The new minimum wage is in effect until June 30th 2023, when it will be raised to Z13,600. The same minimum wage applies across all sectors, regions and occupations in Poland.
