THIS SPECIAL ISSUE of IEEE Design Test of Computers makes the excellent point that designing any complex system will require the use of design automation tools, in this case, Biodesign Automation (BDA.) However I think that biologists and bioengineers new to this area might be in for some surprises when they start using these tools. The following might have happened a long time ago: Scene: The Grand Old Deity (Grand) is sitting at his desk. Outside his plush office hordes of angels are toiling over workstations, designing strands of DNA. The Adversary (TA) enters--he sells the BDA tools Grand uses.
