One-dimensional chains of gold clusters on the surface of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite

We have investigated the growth of gold nanoclusters on thesurface of highly oriented py- rolytic graphite in ultrahigh vacuum.Studies of ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy re- vealedthat the size distribution of gold clusters was very narrow andquasi-one-dimensional chains of gold nanoclusters of approximately 2nm diameter were produced after being annealed at 74 deg.C.
