The growth units and hydrothermal prepparation of lead tungstate (PbWO_4) crystaiites

The crystal structure of lead tungstate (PbWO_4) can be regardedas ordered combination of the tungsten oxide tetrahedrons (WO_4) andlead ions (Pb~2+). According to the growth unit model, the growthunits of lead tungstate are the aggregations of the tungsten oxidetetrahedrons and lead cations with various geometry configuration. Itis suggested that the favorable growth units of lead tungstatecrystal are pyramidal, tetragonal prism and quadrangular unitscorresponding to geometric orientations of the simple forms of thecrystal.
