摘要

1.Investigations of unstrengthened and strengthened materials with the use of the large testing device confirmed the conclusion made earlier concerning the effectiveness of filling in rock fill for increasing the strength of earth masses.2.Experiments showed the possibility of using noninfilled and infilled rounded stone, which broadens the area of use of boulders and cobble in construction, where presently such material is graded out.3.The low compressibility 2 and high shear strength of infilled rock fill permits hoping for the wider introduction into hydrotechnical practice of dams with facings if strenthening of the shoulders by infilling is mastered.4.For more substantiated conclusions with respect to this matter it is necessary to conduct a wide range of laboratory, field, and theoretical investigations. In so doing it is necessary to bear in mind that filling in rock fill complicates the technological process and therefore should be technically and economically justified and coordinated with the local construction conditions.
