A REVIEW OF THE PHYSICS OF PLUTONIUM SYSTEMS

We have reviewed the status of the physics of plutónium utilization in H2O Power Reactors, and on the bais of this review, have indicated areas where further studies would be useful. These recommendations are summarized below:nThe precision of the knowledge of thermal cross sections of plutónium is inferior to that of the uranium isotopes. Based on this fact and the requirement of knowing plutónium thermal cross sections more exactly than uranium cross sections, there is a continuing need for evaluation of new cross section measurements and to update existing cross section libraries.
