The method involves recording a reference image of a hall with known occupancy by using a camera, and determining a value of a parameter of the reference image. A momentary image of the hall with same recording area and camera settings are recorded, and a value of the parameter of the momentary image is determined. The value of the parameter of the momentary image is compared with the value of the parameter of the reference image for determining the occupancy of the halls, where the parameter is a file size of the images or number of edges, surfaces or corners in the images.
