A hoist for loaded cars for a log flume or scenic railway has a vertical support (6) with lifting platforms (10) on a track to take loaded cars from a bottom point to a discharge point at the top of the support. The track is straight or spiral, with a spiral track provides a combined lift and twist action. The empty platforms are returned to the start point. Several lifting platforms can be fitted to provide a large throughput rate. For safety the cars are secured to the platforms during lifting. The bottom start point and the upper discharge point can be rotationally offset. The platforms are fitted with rollers to move the cars.
