Permanent way with rubber or plastics surrounding concrete sleepers - allowing slight vertical movement between anchors and sleepers

Permanent way without ballast in which the prefabricated sleepers are each positioned above a freshly formed section of a reinforced concrete slab, then lowered and compacted into the slab before it has cured. The side surfaces and lower surface of the sleepers block are surrounded with a resilient material e.g., rubber or plastic, and anchors extending into the slab are fixed in the block in such a way as to allow slight vertical movement between anchor and sleeper. Pref. the resilient material is epoxy resin bonded concrete or a plastics reinforced with glass or steel fibres. The arrangement prevents vertical dynamic stress causing detachment of the sleeper from the concreted frost blanket layer underneath.
