The vitality of animals offspring and foetuses is improved by administration to the pregnant female animal of an effective amount of a dialkylbeta-chlorovinyl phosphate of the formula: in which R is H or Cl and "alkyl" and "alkyl" are each C 1-4 alkyl groups or "alkyl" is methyl and "alkyl" is C 1-20 alkyl. Administration is by the oral or parenteral method in conventional formations including feedstuffs and drinking water. Preferably, the active compound is administered as an intimate mixture with a PVC resin.
