Practicality and Effectiveness of Realistic Mathematical Learning Materials to Support Mathematical Literacy Skill of Junior High School Students

Mathematical literacy is the ability to apply mathematics concepts in daily life. In previous studies, teaching materials have been developed into students' books form characterized by realistic mathematics, which can support the mathematical literacy abilities of junior high school student. This article will discuss the implementation of mathematics learning using students' book that had been developed. The characteristics of realistic mathematics learning are: (1) the use of context; (2) the use of model; (3) utilization of student contributions; (4) interactivity; and (5) relation with other concepts. The analysis result showed that the mean of the practicality of teaching materials is very practical criteria. The learning effectiveness which is obtained from class observation during learning process is in effective criteria. While student book's effectiveness obtained from the result of quiz scoring, assignment and daily test showed that 84% of students got scores above the minimum passing grade. This result showed that the students' book is practice and effective.
