Genome-based microbiology-From -omics research to systems and synthetic biology

The Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec) of Bielefeld University organizes annual symposia dealing with recent progress in biotechnological research. The 6th CeBiTec Symposium entitled 揋enome-based Microbiology ?From -omics Research to Systems and Synthetic Biology?was held at Bielefeld University from July 18?0, 2011. The topic of the conference was centered on present knowledge of ?omics?research, in particular on transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics. Another focus concerned bioinformatics which is mandatory for storing, interpreting and analyzing large -omics data sets. The basic knowledge arising from -omics research was then used to discuss the development of Systems and Synthetic Biology. In particular, sessions on modeling and simulation as well as regulatory networks were part of the symposium. Last but not least, the symposium addressed questions concerning the public perception of synthetic biology and informed on the International Genetically Engineered Machines Competition (iGEM).
