PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new type of a chain transfer agent which does not have problems associated with odor, corrosivity and hygroscopicity, is environment-friendly, and has high chain transfer ability, and further to provide a polymer using the chain transfer agent, which has a functional group at the end and is imparted with a condensed polycyclic aromatic skeleton, and its production method.SOLUTION: This chain transfer agent includes a condensed polycyclic aromatic skeleton expressed by general formula (1) (wherein, n=1-4; R's are each independently hydrogen, an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy group or a halogen atom; X and Y are each independently a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy, alkyl, amino group, a halogen atom or six-membered rings bonded with each other).
